The State Failure Anniversary and Lack of Courage to Confess the Mistakes
The failure of the former regime against the Taliban was one of the most shocking and tragic events recorded in the history of Afghanistan in the last hundred years.
The tragedy of the state’s failure against a terror group is understandable by those who have historical awareness, and have read and witnessed the efforts of several generations of educated, political and cultural elites of the country who have sacrificed their lives in order to free this land from medieval bottlenecks. The failure of the republic was not only the failure of a political system, but also the failure of the city against the desert, the failure of modernism against antiquated, the failure of modern values against medieval values, the failure of freedom against tyranny, the failure of rationality against superstition, the failure of art against artlessness, the failure of moderate religiosity against violent religiosity, and the failure of a generation in using the golden historical opportunity in the past century, led to the destruction of the aspirations of several generations.
The reverberation of this failure is complicated to the deepest layers of our bones and its pain will last for decades. But no one dares and is ready to admit his/her role and part in failing a fixed state.. Everyone seeks to justify himself/herself and blame others, from the escapee president of the failed regime and his ministers to the lowest-rank employee in the government or in the opposition ranks. This is despite the fact that we are all responsible and have a role in what happened in August 15, 2021. Everyone is responsible with respect to his/her authority level in the government during the past 20 years. Acknowledging this truth is the first step to liberation, both freedom from the torment of conscience, freedom from historical shame and freedom from the vicious cycle of self-blame and self-sacrifice. The absence of a culture of confession, the prevalence of the spirit of avoiding responsibility and trying to oppress is part of the problem that our society is dealing with, and it doesn’t seem like anything will change on the earth until the courage and culture to admit mistakes and try for rectifications and apologies is not enabled among the elite class of the society who usually lead the country and resources. . The easiest and at the same time the most pointless thing is to blame the competitors and avoid accepting the self responsibility.
If we really don’t want to play a part in the reproduction of the disaster and this vicious circle continues to turn, each of us should face our own problems and start re-reading our individual and group records, with the necessary courage to face the bitter realities and admit the mistakes made. We have to review what we did as an official of the government, minister, deputy, lawyer, president, manager, etc. What path did we take as oppositions? What more important things should we have done as civil activists? As a national businessman, What are the root causes of the current ideology that has developed that people are silent concerning their fate and do not show practical reactions against the wrong doings of the current extremists rulers? What concepts should we criticize as poets and writers? As writers and academic figures, what matters of this society should we consider as our priority? As young people interested in politics, how should we distance ourselves from following and praising politicians who have failed many times and have led the country to crises? As foreign policy officials, how should we find a way for other countries and governments to cooperate with our country? As intellectuals, how should we reach the most distant villages of our country and make possible the emergence of great national movements? How should we make institutionalize the great human values as the mission of our efforts instead of playing the drum of ethnocentrism and tribalism? We have a long way to go to reread this record and find its shortcomings, root causes and biases.
